The Red Room has been running continuously since 1996 (with the exception of a few months lost to a zoning dispute early on, which we won), presenting 40-60 events of wildly experimental, wildly diverse music, film, dance, language etc. every year since then.

With a focus on completely non-commercial, formally experimental work with mid-expanding aesthetics. Free improvisation and what might be called experimental music are two core interests, but The Red Room has a much broader, much stranger brief than just those two areas, and has been a hub for imaginative and uninhibited activities of all sorts since day one.

The series is largely self-funded through door donations, but we do have a small amount of grant funding we use to support a smattering of special shows each year. We could very much use your support! If you would like to see this series continue to be vital, bring even more amazing artists, and pay those artists more, please consider making a tax deductible contribution to our parent organization, The High Zero Foundation (501(c)3) through the PayPal form below. We thank you in advance for your support

The Red Room is a volunteer-run space in Baltimore dedicated to mind-expanding experimental culture, headquartered at Normals Books and Records.
