Jacob Wick, Mexico City based trumpet player is joined by former Baltimorean now NY-based Justin Porter and local Meg Rorison for an evening of three solo performances exploring the visceral, the ephemeral and the immersive.
JACOB WICK is a trumpet player and improvisor who lives in Mexico City and Chicago. He practices an “object-oriented” approach to improvisation, privileging the perspective, experience, and expressive capacities of ambient non-human actors—air ducts, airplanes, birds, cement—over his own. Current projects include the rain in its avoided effects, a solo trumpet performance and listening exercise; and Tres Hongos, an improvising trio with Marc Riordan and Frank Rosaly.
Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Wick has lived in Brooklyn, Oakland, and Los Angeles, and has performed with a variety of improvisers and composers in a variety of contexts, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art (US), the Moers Jazz Festival (DE), and el Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MX). He has performed with Toshimaru Nakamura, Bonnie Jones, Katherine Young, Andrew D’Angelo, Josh Roseman, and many others. He has released recordings on Prom Night Records (Brooklyn, NY), Peira (Chicago, IL), Diatribe (Dublin, IE), and Creative Sources (Lisbon, PT). He holds a BM from Purchase College, SUNY, and an MFA from the California College of the Arts.

JUSTIN PORTER is a composer and cellist based in Brooklyn NY. These days his interests as a composer lie at the intersection of music, mathematical optimization and probability theory. As a cellist, he performs free improvisations as well as his own compositions.
MARGARET RORISON is a curator and filmmaker from Baltimore, Maryland. She works with language, sound and imagery to create installations, films and live 16mm projections. Rorison’s work has screened at Anthology Film Archives, Ann Arbor Film Festival, CROSSROADS, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Images Festival, The Maryland Film Festival, Mono No Aware VI & VII, Sonic Circuits Festival, Microscope Gallery, The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and The High Zero Festival. She is the recipient of a 2016 Rubys Artist Project Grants in media and performing arts, a recipient of The Maryland State Arts Council 2016 Individual Artist Awards and 2015 Sondheim Semi-finalist. She is also the co-founder and director of Sight Unseen, a nomadic experimental film series running since 2012.
