Burt Conceptual String Compositions -- Oct. 17, 2009

Saturday, October 17th, 2009 -- 5.0000

Burt Conceptual String Compositions

Samuel Burt is known around America's Experimental City for both his highly notated compositions and his intellectually formalistic improvisation. Tonight, hear the middle-ground. Mr. Burt has provided classically trained performers with concept scores. These new constructively specific scores test the ears and intuition of four local chamber musicians.

Cameron Raecke, viola

Liz Meredith, viola

Caleb Jones, violoncello

Rachel Gawell, violoncello

Refrain of Athanasius

A small set of instructions create accidental chords that slowly travel from one harmonic world to the next.

Unwound 2.0

Performer selected loops go through an epic transformation from gesture to phrase to large formal landmarks.

Also on the program will be new solo compositions performed by the musicians, including David Whitmer's Dune Dust played by Caleb Jones.
