Carl Stone, a pioneer of live computer music and a highly absorbing composer, will be making his Red Room debut (apparently he has been waiting for years for this moment!) and we couldn’t be happier to host him. AMI amazed and terrified her unsuspecting audience in December 2017 with her unearthly vocal ability and it is a pleasure to have her back in a duo with Carl, promising a new world of sonic delight. In-house ringer Tom Boram never disappoints and even if he did, wouldn’t you want to be there to see it?

Carl Stone has been hailed by the Village Voice as “the king of sampling.” and “one of the best composers living in (the USA) today.” He has used computers in live performance since 1986. Stone was born in Los Angeles and now divides his time between Los Angeles and Japan. He studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney and has composed electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. His works have been performed in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the Near East. In addition to his schedule of performance, composition and touring, he is on the faculty of the Department of Media Engineering at Chukyo University in Japan.
AMI is a vocalist and cross-media artist from Tokyo. She creates installations, performance pieces and directs films. With primal vocals and listening, she explores the possibilities of a deeper understanding towards the mechanism of the world. She collaborates with Keiji Haino, Yasunao Tone, Ned Rothenberg, Ikue Mori and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
