Chicago based multidisciplinary artist from Baltimore, MD, focused primarily on expression through sound, movement, line and spirit. Her research has lead her to explore vocal styling elements of storytelling through black classical music, free music, world music (with emphasis on Afro-Cuban song and dance), improvised and traditional dance/ theater, and stream of consciousness writing. She has worked as vocalist and dancer with Latin percussion ensembles, Timba Cartel (DMV), Ashe Moyubba Folkloric (DC), Afridansa (MD), Chicago’s innovative and experimental groups- David Boykin’s Sebau and Expanse projects, Marvin Tate’s Kitchen Sink, Participatory Music Coalition in numerous venues throughout the city. Recent self produced projects include Cher Jey and The Abbey Project presents THE MESSAGE, a tribute to jazz vocalist and composer Abbey Lincoln and LUA: A Duet of Brazilian Standards with guitarist, Alex Wing.

 

Eliel Sherman Storey

An idiosyncratic artist that has established his presence or lack thereof on his own terms. He sees himself more as a cultural warrior who happens to study music, and as the result has developed a very personal approach to the saxophone. His musical vocabulary often punctuated by long deliberate lines that resolves unexpectedly, and his compositions speak to the disenfranchisement of the African diaspora.

After years of living in Germany and performing throughout Europe, Eliel returned to his hometown of Chicago and founded “Transition East Studio” to create his musical vision without any external pressures or influences and through his engineering ability finds him currently touring with the Art Ensemble of Chicago as their technical consultant and sound engineer.

Ras Moshe

Ras Moshe Burnett is a saxophonist, composer, improviser and poet born and raised as Theodore Burnett III on the 22 of march 1968 in East New York Brooklyn to a musical family.

Ras studied and performed music in the public school system playing alto, tenor and baritone saxes from the 5th grade into the duration of High School studies. He was a member of the Heritage Symphony Youth Orchestra at Pratt Institute from 1981-1983 playing traditional jazz and classical hymns written by Black composers.

After playing Reggae and African music in the 1980’s he began to form his own ensembles in the mid 90’s,facilitating his development of the free jazz/new music/electronic music direction featuring varying combinations of improvising collaborators. In 2000 founded the Music Now series at The Brecht Forum, a monthly night of free jazz and new music that is currently extant at The Brooklyn Commons. Ras is a recent college graduate, completing a bachelor’s program at Empire State College in the spring of 2018.

Ras has performed as leader and sideman at The Knitting Factory, Roulette, Issue Project Room, Spectrum, The Brecht Forum, The Vision Festival, X-Fest,Syracuse Film Festival, Outpost 186 among others. Ras believes in the power of creative music and it’s effect on social and personal
