SONOSCOPIA is an experimental music collective based in Portugal. Collective members Gustavo Costa and Tiago Angelo are touring the USA performing with painstakingly hand-built robots and automatic music generation devices called Phobos. These form a Dysfunctional Robotic Orchestra, an orchestra with strange instruments, defects, genetic mutations and erratic behaviors.

STEFAN MAIER is an artist based in Vancouver, Canada. His compositions, installations, and performances, examine emergent and historical sound technologies. Highlighting material instability and unruliness, his work explores the flows of sonic matter through sound systems, instruments, software, and bodies, to uncover alternate modes of authorship and listening possible within specific technologically-mediated situations. Stefan works fluidly between contemporary classical music, sound art, experimental electronic music and installation. His work has been presented by Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Kunsthal Aarhus, Ultima festival, SPOR festival, G(o)ng Tomorrow, and Gaudeamus Muziekweek, among many others. In 2017 he received a Mayor’s Art Award from the City of Vancouver and is a 2019 Macdowell Colony Fellow. Stefan currently lectures in music composition at Simon Fraser University.

LUCAS YASUNAGA is a Baltimore based artist, musician, and circuit designer.  Lucas will perform with an instrument he designed called Environment.  The Environment is a playground for a musical ecosystem in which the player collaborates with various synthetic animals with limited receptors and effectors. Environment is an architectural model and arena, the site, zone, the theatrical stage for an explorative system making for dynamic relationships between the player and these beings.
