Jack Langdon is an organist, filmmaker, and writer. His work as an organist explores extremes of instrumental technique, employing non-standard practices on pipe organs and tonewheel organs, pushing these often conservatively-utilized instruments into uncanny and experimental territories. Jack’s improvised and concert works deal with strange forms, excessive repetition, ironic tonality, and sonic fragility. His recent recordings include Precision Valley with Taylor Ho Bynum (Empty Stage, 2024), The Generous Law with Anthony Vine (Imprec/Cassauna, 2024), Three Fanfares for organ (self-released, 2023) Thetford with Weston Olencki (Lobby Art, 2022), and Less Than You Remember (Sawyer Editions, 2022). He plays in various projects with Hunter Brown, Ishmael Ali, Erica Miller, Jeff Kimmel, Anthony Vine, Webb Crawford, Sam Scranton, Ben Zucker, Weston Olencki, Kelley Sheehan, Taylor Ho Bynum and Adam Shead. His recent films include rare sight left right (2024, 378 min), Sauk County Solstice (2023, 81 min), Lumia One (2023, 68 min), and A Common Rhythm (2023, 34 min). Jack is a founding editor of Culture as Care Journal, alongside Eli Namay and John Pippen. Jack runs the CD label and music journal Empty Stage. Jack grew up in Keyeser, Wisconsin and is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He lives in Chicago.
