Martin Schmidt, here welcoming you to High Zero’s DIFFUSION Festival. The first night of four. Our 8th annual DIFFUSION Festival. This one is at the Red Room. 2 shows: Early and Late.

Doors for the Early Show will be at 7:30,

Doors for the late show (please be quiet if you are arriving early!) will be at 10.

MUSIC BEGINS at 8 and 10 (ish). Please come before the music begins so we don’t have to seat people in the dark! This evening, curated by Peabody faculty member Chris Delaurenti, is entitled INTO THE LABYRINTH and is broken into three sets with a short break in-between for…digestion, or the sonic equivalent thereof…FYI: shorter than usual Red Room breaks! Historical works, and some new pieces!

SOME of the featured composers this night are: Hildegard Westerkamp, Barry Truax and Jean-Claude Risset…

DIFFUSION is our festival concerned with multi-channel electro acoustic music, both brand new and historical.

Some of these sound pieces are made with just microphones, some of them are made with only electronic instruments, much of it is made with a combination of both. Some of them are played on 4 speakers, some on 6 speakers and some on 8 speakers!

Listening, in this medium is different from “normal” music, I like to think of it as the difference, on a hot day, between standing in front of an air conditioner, and going swimming in a cool lake.

Seats are taken, the lights are dimmed, and the sound commences, there is nothing to see, everything is “seen” with the ears. This music is for everyone…no prior knowledge or education is necessary.

Please join us for some or all of these nights!
