SUSAN ALCORN & PHILLIP GREENLIEF // BILIANA VOUTCHKOVA & MICHAEL THIEKE (DE)
DOUBLE DUO DIENSTAG at THE RED ROOM!
Local legend Susan Alcorn (pedal steel guitar) joins San Francisco’s versatile Phillip Greenlief (reeds) for what we have to assume will be a tightly controlled YET UNPREDICTABLE explosion of thoughtful, varied improvisation.
Berlin-based Biliana Voutchkova (violin, voice) and Michael Thieke (clarinet) emerged from that city’s fecund “Echtzeitmusik” (real-time music) scene, a hothouse for radical and reductive new approaches to improvising. Both have played in the storied Splitter Orchestra alongside countless High Zero luminaries, “exploring reduction, detail and micro elements that increase the sensitivity of perception for themselves as well as their audiences. The music focuses on microtonality and intimate, slow moving soundscapes.”
